LIVEWIRE - August 2006
-------------------
The Prez-Sez Column
-------------------

As the sand fills the bottle ! - This 2006 being more than half over and
many of the shrine activities properly filed and accomplished - we can now
get back to the regular business of Amateur Radio.

We have a regular meeting Saturday August 19, 2006 at the shrine complex in
our room. As several of our past events have coincided with our regular
meetings, we have had little time for business. This month we have a backup
of old and new business and some new year planning.

If you haven't attended a meeting for a while, now is a good time. Your vote
matters more than ever. We are all hoping for a great turnout. Remember, we
have the lowest calorie donuts in town (after all, they are made with fresh
camels milk)! Harvey makes sure that the coffee beans were picked fresh that
morning. See you here.

Who is our Potentate ? - Well, we all know that,
but go here for a profile ...

Do you know any Shriner, or Mason continuing his Eastward progress, who
might have an interest in Amateur Radio? We are ready to start training
sessions (2 weeks) to get potential members licensed. The licensing with the
FCC has never been easier and there is NO MORSE CODE requirements. If your
candidate has an internet connection and just a week, he could be licensed
in short order. Even without an internet connection he will probably pass
the license exam in 2 weeks.
Remember, you didn't start amateur radio in a vacuum. You probably knew a
ham or better yet an Elmer who was helpful in getting you in the greatest
hobby on earth!

Congratulations to the newest Imperial Sir, Nick Thomas - he will bring the
flavor of nationwide Shrinedom here to Southern California (and the reverse)
next year - July 1-5. More on this later.
